To upload the configuration bitstream for the previously assembled program, run:

You will now be able to interact with a basic shell over the UART at 115200 baud. Additionally, the output will also be sent over the VGA interface.

There are a variety of memory mapped peripherals included in the system. The memory map is configured in soc/src/dramandio/dramandio.v. Currently addresses 0x0000 to 0x07FF are mapped to data ram. The peripherals are mapped from 0x1000 to 0x10FF. The instructions in and out are designed to allow for quickly and easily reading and writing to peripherals within this…

Pet on a chip: common questions

What microcontroller does the Pet on a chip use?

The Pet on a chip is built around the ICE40HX8K-BG121, from the FPGA family.

How big is the Pet on a chip PCB?

The Pet on a chip measures 76.2 × 63.5 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Pet on a chip?

67 components, from 28 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Pet on a chip design files?

From the ept221/pet-on-a-chip repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Pet on a chip design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which ept221 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Pet on a chip without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug FPGA firmware against it before you order a PCB.
