About the LoRa-Gateway-E32 PCB

LoRa-Gateway-E32 is an open source ESP32 PCB design by ezcGman, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 65.4 × 63 mm, with 8 components from 7 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32_DevKit_V1_DOIT, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the EByte E32-400/900M20S and QuinLED-ESP32-ETH-Hat. By type, the board carries 3 ICs, 2 capacitors, 1 connector, 1 fuse and 1 jumper.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, rf & radio and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

Gateway to create a bridge between your LoRa devices and Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Also comes with ready-to-use code to drop everything into your MQTT server!

For giving the board Ethernet capability, I'm using the QuinLED ESP32 Ethernet Hat. Of course, It's natural that I should have also used a QuinLed ESP32, but I had a few spare standard ESP32 devboards laying around with no use for, so I designed the board around these. But that said, I might one day design a version completely based on the QuinLED-ESP32.

To easily switch between Wi-FI and Ethernet, there's a jumper on the board to do just that. This even works with the board powered; no need to cut power.

LoRa-Gateway-E32: common questions

What microcontroller does the LoRa-Gateway-E32 use?

The LoRa-Gateway-E32 is built around the ESP32_DevKit_V1_DOIT, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the LoRa-Gateway-E32 PCB?

The LoRa-Gateway-E32 measures 65.4 × 63 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the LoRa-Gateway-E32?

8 components, from 7 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the LoRa-Gateway-E32 design files?

From the ezcGman/lora-gateway repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the LoRa-Gateway-E32 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with ezcGman. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the LoRa-Gateway-E32 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
