About the Mentor PCB

Mentor is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by F6ITU, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 50 × 100 mm, with 48 components from 29 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Nano, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the KA78M05_TO252. By type, the board carries 17 resistors, 8 connectors, 6 inductors, 6 capacitors, 3 transistors and 2 ICs.

It belongs with the displays & leds, rf & radio and retro computing designs in this gallery.

From the project

An Arduino base display controler for OpenHPSDR/Hermes familly (8000 DLE retrofit)

An Arduino based SSPA display controler for HPSDR/Hermes familly This module controls - voltage - current - temperature - VSWR/PWR - cooling fan - 4x40 lcd display and shuts down the Bias current while beeping in case of dificulties

This board and the associated firmware have been developped by ON7EQ.

Mentor: common questions

What microcontroller does the Mentor use?

The Mentor is built around the Arduino_Nano, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Mentor PCB?

The Mentor measures 50 × 100 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Mentor?

48 components, from 29 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Mentor design files?

From the F6ITU/Mentor repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Mentor design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with F6ITU. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Mentor without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
