About the MochaDeck PCB

MochaDeck is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by FabioCanavarro, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 348.5 × 142.5 mm, with 153 components from 8 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the ER_OLEDM0.91_1x-I2C. By type, the board carries 77 switches, 73 diodes, 1 IC and 1 module.

It belongs with the keyboards and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

Full hardware design files for a custom mechanical keyboard. Contains the KiCad schematics, BOMs, and 3D .step files.

My custom 65% mechanical keyboard designed from scratch for the Hack Club hardware grant.

- Forehead: 0.91" OLED screen + EC11 Rotary Encoder (knob)

I made a custom 65% layout with a 5-key macro column on the left (for dev shortcuts) and a "forehead" on the top right for an OLED screen and a knob.

For the case, I went with a 3D-printed tray mount design. It has a bottom tub with 6mm pillars for the PCB to sit on, and a 1.5mm top switch plate that drops right in. I also cut a window in the top plate to expose the Pico and leave room to wire up the OLED.

MochaDeck: common questions

What microcontroller does the MochaDeck use?

The MochaDeck is built around the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the MochaDeck PCB?

The MochaDeck measures 348.5 × 142.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the MochaDeck?

153 components, from 8 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MochaDeck design files?

From the FabioCanavarro/MochaDeck repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MochaDeck design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with FabioCanavarro. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the MochaDeck without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
