About the Magic seashell speaker PCB

Magic seashell speaker is an open source ESP32 PCB design by fajr-lilypad, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 47.8 × 47.8 mm, with 25 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-WROOM-32E, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the MAX98357A, AP2112K-3.3 and CH340C. By type, the board carries 7 capacitors, 6 resistors, 4 ICs, 4 connectors, 2 transistors and 2 switches.

It belongs with the audio and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

I came up with this idea when I was thinking about how to expand my audio projects. This was created for hackclub's fallout program, and after first creating an mp3 player, I though the next step would be to make something that could use bluetooth, and then I took it to the next level by making it tilt activated! By coincidence, this is my second ocean-related project, lol. The design was inspired by the story we all know about hearing the ocean come from a shell, and partly inspired by the purple magic…

Magic seashell speaker: common questions

What microcontroller does the Magic seashell speaker use?

The Magic seashell speaker is built around the ESP32-WROOM-32E, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Magic seashell speaker PCB?

The Magic seashell speaker measures 47.8 × 47.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Magic seashell speaker?

25 components, from 17 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Magic seashell speaker design files?

From the fajr-lilypad/magic-seashell-speaker repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Magic seashell speaker design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with fajr-lilypad. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Magic seashell speaker without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
