About the Fire-28-c PCB

Fire-28-c is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by fezzo2003, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-W-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 18.9 × 36.6 mm, with 46 components from 20 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2354B, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the 28 Pin ROM, AP2112K-3.3 and USBLC6-2P6. By type, the board carries 22 capacitors, 10 resistors, 4 ICs, 4 connectors, 4 diodes and 1 crystal.

From the project

A variant of the 28 pin using the RP2354B MCU, making use of its extra GPIOs to provide X pins and more efficient use of flash for most image types. Uses a flat (inline) USB-C connector.

Has components on both sides of the board.

Changes from fire-28-a: - Adds a neo-pixel LED, GPIO 44, alongside the status LED at GPIO 45. - SEL pins have been swapped around for consistency with the latest 28, 32 and 40 pin designs. The two right-most SEL pins are now ADC (non-5V tolerant) pins, with the othe two being 5V tolerant. - Adds 2 more image select jumpers, matching the 4 of the 24/32/40 pins…

Fire-28-c: common questions

What microcontroller does the Fire-28-c use?

The Fire-28-c is built around the RP2354B, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Fire-28-c PCB?

The Fire-28-c measures 18.9 × 36.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Fire-28-c?

46 components, from 20 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Fire-28-c design files?

From the fezzo2003/onerom-honda repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Fire-28-c design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-W-2.0 license, which fezzo2003 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Fire-28-c without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
