From the project

SVI-3x8 PicoExpander project is a memory, disk and tape expansion emulator for Spectravideo 318 and 328 which uses a Raspberry Pico 2 W microcontroller board to emulate devices in the expansion bus.

This directory contains the KiCad hardware design files for the SVI-3x8 PicoExpander and the SuperExpander adapter board.

The main expansion board that connects to the SVI-3x8 expansion port via a 50-pin edge connector.

SVI-3x8 PicoExpander: common questions

What microcontroller does the SVI-3x8 PicoExpander use?

The SVI-3x8 PicoExpander is built around the Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the SVI-3x8 PicoExpander PCB?

The SVI-3x8 PicoExpander measures 150 × 38 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the SVI-3x8 PicoExpander?

14 components, from 7 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the SVI-3x8 PicoExpander design files?

From the fitch/SVI-3x8-PicoExpander repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the SVI-3x8 PicoExpander design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which fitch chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the SVI-3x8 PicoExpander without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
