About the TinyFPGA-UP PCB

TinyFPGA-UP is an open source FPGA PCB design by glanc1, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-1.2 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 17.8 × 35.6 mm, with 55 components from 28 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ICE40UP5K-SG48I, from the FPGA family. Other key parts include the MIC5504-3.3YM5, DSC6001CI2A-016.0000, MIC5365-1.2YC5 and AT25SF081-SSHD-B. By type, the board carries 22 capacitors, 17 resistors, 5 ICs, 5 connectors, 4 diodes and 1 switch.

From the project

The TinyFPGA UP board is a tiny FPGA board based on a ICE40UP5K-SG48 FPGA from Lattice.

The TinyFPGA UP board is a tiny FPGA board based on a ICE40UP5K-SG48 FPGA from Lattice.

This board is based on Luke Valenty's TinyFPGA-BX project. The programming pins are compatible with Piotr Esden-Tempski's iCEBreaker-bitsy project.

WARNING: This is work in progress and not yet soldered nor tested!

TinyFPGA-UP: common questions

What microcontroller does the TinyFPGA-UP use?

The TinyFPGA-UP is built around the ICE40UP5K-SG48I, from the FPGA family.

How big is the TinyFPGA-UP PCB?

The TinyFPGA-UP measures 17.8 × 35.6 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the TinyFPGA-UP?

55 components, from 28 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the TinyFPGA-UP design files?

From the glanc1/TinyFPGA-UP repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the TinyFPGA-UP design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-1.2 license, which glanc1 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the TinyFPGA-UP without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug FPGA firmware against it before you order a PCB.
