About the Ostentus hw PCB

Ostentus hw is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by golioth, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 80.7 × 78.7 mm, with 65 components from 27 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the CAP1203-1-SN and LIS2DH12. By type, the board carries 30 resistors, 14 capacitors, 8 diodes, 6 connectors, 3 ICs and 2 switches.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

A PCB front panel for Golioth's Aludel hardware platform

This board acts as a display and input device for Reference Designs. Using a series of simple calls from a Zephyr platform, it's possible to offload readings from the underlying device and push them up to the display without consuming processing cycles on the main processor (such as the nRF9160 on the Elixir). We chose ePaper in order to have a high visibility display that would continue showing a reading when in a low power or off state. Since the QWIIC connector powers the Ostentus as well as sending data, it's possible to power down the entire subsystem of the Ostentus while still…

Ostentus hw: common questions

What microcontroller does the Ostentus hw use?

The Ostentus hw is built around the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Ostentus hw PCB?

The Ostentus hw measures 80.7 × 78.7 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Ostentus hw?

65 components, from 27 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Ostentus hw design files?

From the golioth/ostentus-hw repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Ostentus hw design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license, which golioth chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Ostentus hw without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
