About the Hardware widget PCB

Hardware widget is an open source ESP32 PCB design by GuyOnWifi, published on GitHub. It is a board, with 6 components from 4 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-ESP32-C6-SMD, from the ESP32 family. By type, the board carries 3 switches, 1 IC, 1 connector and 1 battery holder.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, keyboards and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

Extensible hardware widget

A macropad-like device featuring 3 buttons and a screen, to be used for anything! Currently features a Bluetooth Low Energy music display and controller.

Displays information such as song title, song duration, song progress. Allows for the user to play/pause, seek forward/backwards in a track, and play next/previous.

This project was built to have a convenient display on my desk! It also served as a way to experiment with the newer BLE Services, which seem very promising for small peripherals like this. This was also an experiment in embedded Rust, which I found extremely nice to work with…

Hardware widget: common questions

What microcontroller does the Hardware widget use?

The Hardware widget is built around the XIAO-ESP32-C6-SMD, from the ESP32 family.

How many components are on the Hardware widget?

6 components, from 4 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Hardware widget design files?

From the GuyOnWifi/hardware-widget repository on GitHub, which has the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Hardware widget design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with GuyOnWifi. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Hardware widget without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
