About the Modular-Keyboard PCB

Modular-Keyboard is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by hashim-cpro, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 409.7 × 97.2 mm, with 260 components from 10 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-nRF52840-SMD, from the Nordic nRF family. Other key parts include the PCF8575DBR. By type, the board carries 83 switches, 82 diodes, 4 ICs and 1 test point.

It belongs with the keyboards and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

This is a wireless 65% modular keyboard with magnetic modules, hot swappable sockets and rgb

It is a 60% wireless keyboard(bluetooth) also works wired. It has magnetic modules. Currently I only added a Numpad but almost anything could be added in a chain as long as it works on i2c. it has hotswapable switches, rgb lights for each key, OLED, rotoary encoder, dedicated charging module(1000mah) and a 10000mah battery. Also it is kind of MCU agnostic, you can use any XIAO series MCU with it, for example rp2040 if you don't want bluetooth or nRF52840.

Modular-Keyboard: common questions

What microcontroller does the Modular-Keyboard use?

The Modular-Keyboard is built around the XIAO-nRF52840-SMD, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Modular-Keyboard PCB?

The Modular-Keyboard measures 409.7 × 97.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Modular-Keyboard?

260 components, from 10 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Modular-Keyboard design files?

From the hashim-cpro/Modular-Keyboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Modular-Keyboard design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with hashim-cpro. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Modular-Keyboard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
