About the Buzz car line follower PCB

Buzz car line follower is an open source ESP32 PCB design by iihij, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 65 × 65 mm, with 12 components from 12 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-C6-DevKitC-1, from the ESP32 family. By type, the board carries 11 connectors and 1 IC.

It belongs with the robotics & motion, displays & leds and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

ESP32-C6 line-following robot (ECE 3011, Georgia Tech). Custom IR/LM339N comparator sensor board (EasyEDA) and KiCad main carrier PCB with DRV8833 motor drive, dual OLED eyes, and NeoPixel.

An educational line-following robot for kids aged 8–10, built by Team Buzzi for ECE 3011 (ECE Design Fundamentals), Georgia Tech, Spring 2026. Buzzi follows a black line with two IR sensors and shows what it is "feeling" through two OLED eyes, a NeoPixel strip and sound, so students can see sensing and feedback control happen in real time. The bill of materials targets about $70 per unit, under a $100 budget.

Buzz car line follower: common questions

What microcontroller does the Buzz car line follower use?

The Buzz car line follower is built around the ESP32-C6-DevKitC-1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Buzz car line follower PCB?

The Buzz car line follower measures 65 × 65 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Buzz car line follower?

12 components, from 12 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Buzz car line follower design files?

From the iihij/buzz-car-line-follower repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Buzz car line follower design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with iihij. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Buzz car line follower without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
