About the Katia PCB

Katia is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by ikajdan, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 277.2 × 107.5 mm, with 192 components from 27 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the W25Q128JVSIQ, SN74LV1T34DBV, USBLC6-2SC6 and NCP1117LPST33T3G. By type, the board carries 46 switches, 46 LEDs, 42 capacitors, 30 resistors, 10 ICs and 4 connectors.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

A split keyboard with 6 by 3 column staggered keys and 3 thumb keys, based on the Crkbrd design

Katia is a split mechanical keyboard with 6 by 3 column staggered keys and 3 thumb keys, based on the Crkbrd design.

Compared to the original Crkbrd, Katia features 4-layer PCB stackup, which allows for better routing and thus, better signal integrity.

The design is intended to be used with hot-swap sockets for Cherry MX switches. The switches are backlit with individually addressable LEDs.

Katia: common questions

What microcontroller does the Katia use?

The Katia is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Katia PCB?

The Katia measures 277.2 × 107.5 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.582 mm thick.

How many components are on the Katia?

192 components, from 27 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Katia design files?

From the ikajdan/katia repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Katia design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license, which ikajdan chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Katia without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
