About the CERAM-v2 PCB

CERAM-v2 is an open source ESP32 PCB design by InSynchronous, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 52.2 × 95.5 mm, with 20 components from 11 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-ESP32-S3-DIP, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the LM317_TO-220. By type, the board carries 11 connectors, 5 resistors, 2 ICs and 2 transistors.

It belongs with the sensors and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

Cost effective rocket aviation module version 2

CERAM is a flight computer board for model rocketry, built around a simple idea: instead of hand soldering a big board full of tiny SMD parts, you plug in cheap breakout boards that cost a couple of dollars each. The board just wires them together.

Making a rocket flight computer usually means picking one of two paths. Either you buy a commercial unit and spend a lot of money, or you design your own PCB with a bare microcontroller, an IMU, a barometer and a pile of passives, then try to hand solder QFN packages with a normal iron. The second option likely results in failure.

CERAM-v2: common questions

What microcontroller does the CERAM-v2 use?

The CERAM-v2 is built around the XIAO-ESP32-S3-DIP, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the CERAM-v2 PCB?

The CERAM-v2 measures 52.2 × 95.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the CERAM-v2?

20 components, from 11 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the CERAM-v2 design files?

From the InSynchronous/CERAM-v2 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the CERAM-v2 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which InSynchronous chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the CERAM-v2 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
