About the PicoChain RPi Reference Device Implementation PCB

PicoChain RPi Reference Device Implementation is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by jasonalexander-ja, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 68 × 50 mm, with 41 components from 22 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Raspberry Pi, from the Raspberry Pi family. Other key parts include the LM78M05, FT232RL, SRV05, PCA9615DP and SiP32419. By type, the board carries 12 capacitors, 11 resistors, 8 connectors, 7 ICs, 2 fuses and 1 diode.

From the project

Power and I2C daisy chained over ethernet patch cables.

Pico(Daisy)Chain is a simple standard for creating daisy chains of connected devices, allowing I2C and power to be easily distributed out using ethernet patch cables.

This is a repository containing documentation and reference hardware + software implementations.

All hardware reference implementations are in KiCAD 8+ format with the PCB layout and Gerbers.

- PicoChainReference; A generic reference design breaking out the power and I2C to pin headers, this can be easily adapted to what ever purpose is desired. - PicoChainZero; A reference design using the Raspberry Pi Zero as a I2C…

PicoChain RPi Reference Device Implementation: common questions

What microcontroller does the PicoChain RPi Reference Device Implementation use?

The PicoChain RPi Reference Device Implementation is built around the Raspberry Pi, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the PicoChain RPi Reference Device Implementation PCB?

The PicoChain RPi Reference Device Implementation measures 68 × 50 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the PicoChain RPi Reference Device Implementation?

41 components, from 22 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the PicoChain RPi Reference Device Implementation design files?

From the jasonalexander-ja/PicoChain repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the PicoChain RPi Reference Device Implementation design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which jasonalexander-ja chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the PicoChain RPi Reference Device Implementation without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
