About the SDBox v2 PCB

SDBox v2 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by jbilander, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 47 × 50 mm, with 20 components from 13 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Nano_V3, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 74LVC3G17 and 74LVC1G17. By type, the board carries 7 resistors, 4 capacitors, 3 ICs, 3 connectors, 2 diodes and 1 jumper.

It belongs with the retro computing and usb & debug tools designs in this gallery.

SDBox-v2 for Amiga, compatible with the new updated card-detect firmware

This version is superseded by the new SDBox-v3 here: https://github.com/jbilander/SDBox-v3 ***

Here is a short video clip showing the new card detect feature: https://drive.google.com/file/d/11R0idJcfvWwsGSfzbPFG1xpoupvCA6SC/view?usp=sharing

Start by soldering the U2 and U3 ICs, then the passives, the card holder, micro-usb jack, DB25M and so on, nothing complicated, but do skip the 6-pin ICSP-header on the Nano if you're going to put this in a 3D-printed case...

SDBox v2: common questions

What microcontroller does the SDBox v2 use?

The SDBox v2 is built around the Arduino_Nano_V3, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the SDBox v2 PCB?

The SDBox v2 measures 47 × 50 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the SDBox v2?

20 components, from 13 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the SDBox v2 design files?

From the jbilander/SDBox-v2 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the SDBox v2 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which jbilander chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the SDBox v2 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
