About the Controller pico PCB

Controller pico is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by JeremyJStarcher, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 180.3 × 27.9 mm, with 10 components from 10 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 5 connectors, 2 switches, 1 IC, 1 diode and 1 resistor.

It belongs with the keyboards and retro computing designs in this gallery.

From the project

Retro Keyboards for emulators

The purpose of this project is to set up a tools to make it easier to create a custom keyboard to use retro-style computers on modern emulators.

This includes the PCB, keycaps and (in time) a case.

Python 3.10 OpenSCAD KiCad VcCode (other editors will work but may require configuration)

All of the Python scripts run in a virtual environment which will allow them to access privately installed libraries.

Controller pico: common questions

What microcontroller does the Controller pico use?

The Controller pico is built around the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Controller pico PCB?

The Controller pico measures 180.3 × 27.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Controller pico?

10 components, from 10 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Controller pico design files?

From the JeremyJStarcher/retro-keys repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Controller pico design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with JeremyJStarcher. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Controller pico without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
