About the Mender shield
Mender shield is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by joelguittet, published on GitHub under the Apache-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 65 × 59 mm, with 35 components from 11 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the Arduino_UNO_R3, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the KTD2061, KTD2058, AT24CS32-STUM, 24FC512 and ATECC608B-SSHDA. By type, the board carries 18 diodes, 5 ICs, 5 capacitors, 5 resistors, 1 module and 1 connector.
It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

The Mender Shield illustrates the capability to run a Mender client on heterogeneous platforms such as RaspberryPi (Linux based) and MCUs (RTOS/bare metal).
The following picture shows the Mender devices in the field with the mender-shield on the front, RaspberryPi and ESP32 platforms in the back: - The Mender logo is displayed on the front of the shield, with an animation of the purple LEDs when an artifact is being downloaded. - The background color indicates the connectivity status (blue is connected, green is idle, red in case of error).

Mender shield: common questions
What microcontroller does the Mender shield use?
The Mender shield is built around the Arduino_UNO_R3, from the AVR/Arduino family.
How big is the Mender shield?
The Mender shield measures 65 × 59 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Mender shield?
35 components, from 11 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Mender shield design files?
From the joelguittet/mender-shield repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Mender shield design in my own project?
Yes, under the terms of its Apache-2.0 license, which joelguittet chose for the repository.
Can I test firmware for the Mender shield without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
