About the Kicad PCB

Kicad is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by josefadamcik, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 70.7 × 78.2 mm, with 25 components from 19 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP-12F, from the ESP8266 family. Other key parts include the LT1963. By type, the board carries 10 resistors, 5 capacitors, 4 connectors, 2 ICs, 2 switches and 1 module.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, sensors and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

A PCB design for RoomMonitor

PCB design files (KiCad) for DYI room conditions monitor.

- ESP8266 wifi connection & brain - SHT21 - temperature and humidity sensor - BH1750 - light intensity sensor.

All sesnors communicate via I2C bus. Data are sent to a MQTT broker. ¯

A repository with firmware is also available on github.

Kicad: common questions

What microcontroller does the Kicad use?

The Kicad is built around the ESP-12F, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the Kicad PCB?

The Kicad measures 70.7 × 78.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Kicad?

25 components, from 19 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Kicad design files?

From the josefadamcik/RoomMonitorPcb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Kicad design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which josefadamcik chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Kicad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
