About the Sgikbd PCB

Sgikbd is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by jtsiomb, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 80 × 60 mm, with 27 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega328PB, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the ps2kbd, ps2aux, LM358, sgi-mdin6 and L7805. By type, the board carries 10 capacitors, 7 ICs, 4 resistors, 2 connectors, 1 transistor and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

PS/2 keyboard/mouse converter for old Silicon Graphics computers.

SGI - PS/2 keyboard and mouse converter =======================================

About ----- This project is a converter for connecting PS/2 keyboards and mice to old Silicon Graphics computers which had a proprietary keyboard/mouse interface. It should work on every non-PS/2 SGI computer with mini-DIN6, DB9 and DB15 keyboard/mouse connectors, such as:

This converter is not necessary, and will not work, for any later SGI machines, like the indy, O2, indigo2, Octane, and so on, because they use PS/2 keyboards and mice directly.

Sgikbd: common questions

What microcontroller does the Sgikbd use?

The Sgikbd is built around the ATmega328PB, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Sgikbd PCB?

The Sgikbd measures 80 × 60 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Sgikbd?

27 components, from 17 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Sgikbd design files?

From the jtsiomb/sgikbd repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Sgikbd design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which jtsiomb chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Sgikbd without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
