About the ARGB-WLED-PC-Controller PCB

ARGB-WLED-PC-Controller is an open source ESP32 PCB design by jwidess, published on GitHub under the AGPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board, with 1 components from 1 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-DEVKIT-V1, from the ESP32 family.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

A device for controlling ARGB lights via an ESP32 running WLED. Originally intentioned for desktop PC components like fans and LED strips using 3-pin ARGB connectors.

This devboard was a quick perfboard design to get WLED running and driving my ARGB fans. The design has a handful of problems listed below.

1. The "BOB-12009" Level Shifter is not recommended due to the slow pull up nature of the design. Using a SN74AHCT125 bus buffer is a better approach. 2. A 62-100Ohm resistor should be used on the outputs to the data pins of the 3-pin ARGB connectors. 3. Each 3-pin ARGB connector could benefit from a ~100nF decoupling cap near its terminals. 4. No reverse polarity protection. Not a huge deal, but for a DIY device, would be nice.

ARGB-WLED-PC-Controller: common questions

What microcontroller does the ARGB-WLED-PC-Controller use?

The ARGB-WLED-PC-Controller is built around the ESP32-DEVKIT-V1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the ARGB-WLED-PC-Controller PCB?

The ARGB-WLED-PC-Controller has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ARGB-WLED-PC-Controller?

1 components, from 1 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ARGB-WLED-PC-Controller design files?

From the jwidess/ARGB-WLED-PC-Controller repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ARGB-WLED-PC-Controller design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its AGPL-3.0 license, which jwidess chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the ARGB-WLED-PC-Controller without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
