About the MCU V2 PCB

MCU V2 is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by kermitsgonnakermicide, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 63 × 28 mm, with 9 components from 8 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the TXB0108PWR, from the Nordic nRF family. Other key parts include the MAX17048G_T10. By type, the board carries 3 resistors, 2 ICs, 2 connectors, 1 diode and 1 capacitor.

It belongs with the wearables and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

wearable heart monitor(v2)!

the ECG and the MCU communicate over SPI(which, in my opinion is far superior to communicating over simple analog) which opens up a whole new realm of possibilities(and complexities).

the device is tiny, just taking up 6x3 cm(can go FAR smaller) and is connected to the body via this awesome electrode belt

in terms of battery - i'm just using the cheapest thing on hand and it should(in theory) last at least a day, thanks to ttf's super optimized firmware

MCU V2: common questions

What microcontroller does the MCU V2 use?

The MCU V2 is built around the TXB0108PWR, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the MCU V2 PCB?

The MCU V2 measures 63 × 28 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the MCU V2?

9 components, from 8 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MCU V2 design files?

From the kermitsgonnakermicide/heartthingv2 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MCU V2 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with kermitsgonnakermicide. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the MCU V2 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
