About the Integrated motor controller PCB

Integrated motor controller is an open source STM32 PCB design by kgieselman, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 85 × 54 mm, with 107 components from 48 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32H563RITx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the USBLC6-2SC6, AP63205WU, AP1117-33, LSM6DSV and DRV8874PWPR. By type, the board carries 43 capacitors, 31 resistors, 10 diodes, 9 ICs, 5 transistors and 3 switches.

It belongs with the robotics & motion and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

Integrated Motor Controller for a robotics competion hosted by my work. The competitions changes each year so this board is flexible and contains mutliple headers for expanding to daughter boards.

A reusable base board for yearly robotics competitions. The base board handles drive, sensing, control, and radio. Per-season expansion is exposed through a small set of discrete headers (AUX, UART, QWIIC I²C, servo), not a single dedicated mechanism connector.

Adapter boards are named after creature parts: Fang (ping pong gripper/launcher), with future adapters extending the menagerie.

Integrated motor controller: common questions

What microcontroller does the Integrated motor controller use?

The Integrated motor controller is built around the STM32H563RITx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Integrated motor controller PCB?

The Integrated motor controller measures 85 × 54 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Integrated motor controller?

107 components, from 48 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Integrated motor controller design files?

From the kgieselman/integrated_motor_controller_pcb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Integrated motor controller design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which kgieselman chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Integrated motor controller without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
