About the Helios PCB

Helios is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by kyriosaa, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 149.9 × 125.7 mm, with 59 components from 13 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ARDUINO_NANO_V3.X, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 74HC595, 74HC138 and CA56-12EWA. By type, the board carries 30 resistors, 8 transistors, 8 capacitors, 6 ICs, 4 switches and 2 connectors.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

A real-time controller that automatically turns on a lamp in my room every morning based on an alarm

A real-time lamp controller for my room. Keeps the time (even when unplugged) and flips a relay once the clock and alarm values match.

My room doesn't have windows so I created this device to automatically turn on my bedside lamp and put myself into fight or flight every morning to help me wake up in time for work/school.

Some notes on why the board is built the way it is.

Helios: common questions

What microcontroller does the Helios use?

The Helios is built around the ARDUINO_NANO_V3.X, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Helios PCB?

The Helios measures 149.9 × 125.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Helios?

59 components, from 13 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Helios design files?

From the kyriosaa/helios repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Helios design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with kyriosaa. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Helios without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
