About the DCTransistor standard PCB

DCTransistor standard is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by LArkema, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-NC-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 304.8 × 304.8 mm, with 169 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the C82891, from the ESP8266 family. Other key parts include the C84681, C6186 and C7843. By type, the board carries 107 diodes, 43 capacitors, 10 resistors, 4 ICs, 2 transistors and 2 connectors.

This repository holds the files used to design and manufacture the DCTransistor boards themselves.

DCTransistor_updated.svg is an InkScape project file containing the PCB artwork (i.e. map design). The map is the inkscape file used on the most recent (Bidirectional) version of the boards.

The original Inkscape file used to create the first production DCTransistor board run is still available at DCTransistor_orig.svg

DCTransistor standard: common questions

What microcontroller does the DCTransistor standard use?

The DCTransistor standard is built around the C82891, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the DCTransistor standard PCB?

The DCTransistor standard measures 304.8 × 304.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the DCTransistor standard?

169 components, from 18 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the DCTransistor standard design files?

From the LArkema/dctransistor-project repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the DCTransistor standard design in my own project?

It is published under CC-BY-NC-4.0, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the DCTransistor standard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
