About the 6502-Retro IO Card PCB
6502-Retro IO Card is an open source PIC PCB design by linuxplayground, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 100 × 47.4 mm, with 20 components from 11 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the PIC16F628A-IP, from the PIC family. Other key parts include the W65C22SxP. By type, the board carries 8 diodes, 4 connectors, 4 capacitors, 2 ICs, 1 crystal and 1 resistor.
It belongs with the retro computing and keyboards designs in this gallery.
From the project
A 6502 Backplane design.
Inspired by the Z80-Retro! see: https://github.com/z80-retro I decided to see if I could put together a small 6502 based project with a similar design philosphy. The main goals of the project are:
1. The base board must be no larger than 100mm x 100mm to leverage the cheaper manufacturing options. 2. The base board must provide all required functionality to be minimially operational. 3. Daughter boards will provide additional peripherals such as Graphics and Audio

6502-Retro IO Card: common questions
What microcontroller does the 6502-Retro IO Card use?
The 6502-Retro IO Card is built around the PIC16F628A-IP, from the PIC family.
How big is the 6502-Retro IO Card PCB?
The 6502-Retro IO Card measures 100 × 47.4 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the 6502-Retro IO Card?
20 components, from 11 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the 6502-Retro IO Card design files?
From the linuxplayground/6502-retro repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the 6502-Retro IO Card design in my own project?
The repository has no license, so all rights stay with linuxplayground. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
Can I test firmware for the 6502-Retro IO Card without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug PIC firmware against it before you order a PCB.
