About the Poe led bar PCB

Poe led bar is an open source ESP32 PCB design by lucysrausch, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 34 × 112 mm, with 77 components from 30 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the C380921, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the ESP32-WROOM, LAN8720A, SY8120B, 4104 and C8689. By type, the board carries 38 resistors, 23 capacitors, 5 ICs, 3 transistors, 3 connectors and 2 inductors.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

Hardware design files for PoE+ (802.3at Type 2) powered adressable LED bars based on ESP32 and WLED

Important! I did not have a chance to write docs for this project yet, so: The hardware is proven at this point and people have successfully ordered and used PCBs based off this repo, with one exception.

The PCB design has a minor bug with the polarity of one of the LEDs inside the ethernet jack. In rev1.0 of the PCB design, this is not only causing the LED to not work but also the entire ethernet link, because the LEDs are also used as strapping pins to configure the PHY.

The KiCad project lives in the lucysrausch/poe-led-bar repository on GitHub; these links point at the commit this page was built from.

Poe led bar: common questions

What microcontroller does the Poe led bar use?

The Poe led bar is built around the C380921, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Poe led bar PCB?

The Poe led bar measures 34 × 112 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 4.69 mm thick.

How many components are on the Poe led bar?

77 components, from 30 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Poe led bar design files?

From the lucysrausch/poe-led-bar repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Poe led bar design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with lucysrausch. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Poe led bar without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
