About the Quad-AMBE3000 PCB

Quad-AMBE3000 is an open source PCB design by m1geo, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 84 × 62 mm, with 192 components from 30 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the 74AVC9112DCH, 74HC595D, AT93C46D-TH-T, FT4232HL and TPS7A8001DRBR. By type, the board carries 108 capacitors, 49 resistors, 10 ICs, 9 diodes, 5 transistors and 4 jumpers.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

From the project

A PCB for four DVSI AMBE-3000R Vocoders for use with WebSDRs/Audio transcoding

Using four AMBE-3000R parts was cheaper than using a single AMBE-3003, which was the original plan. This is useful for VHF, UHF, SHF WebSDR platforms that decode D-Star, DMR, YSF, NXDN, P25, etc. A soft-codec approach based on mbelib can be used, but appeared to give poorer decode audio when tested.

Using four AMBE-3003 parts gives a total of 12 similtaneous transcode streams. the '3003 part requires 1V9 instead of 1V8. You may also benefit from increasing the SCOMRATE to 921,600kbps, by changing SCOMRATE0 from low to high. See the devices respective datasheets.
