About the Blaustahl PCB

Blaustahl is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by machdyne, published on GitHub under the Custom license license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 30 × 16 mm, with 38 components from 19 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the W25Q32JVSS, MB85RS16 and NCP115. By type, the board carries 20 capacitors, 8 resistors, 4 ICs, 1 crystal, 1 connector and 1 jumper.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

Blaustahl Storage Device

The Blaustahl USB dongle provides long-term storage for 7,680 characters of text, backed by non-volatile FRAM memory — no batteries, no wear-out from repeated writes, and no risk of losing data if the device is unplugged. Simply plug it into your computer and open any serial communications program that supports VT100 emulation (PuTTY, Tera Term, Minicom, screen, etc.) to access the built-in editor.

Blaustahl: common questions

What microcontroller does the Blaustahl use?

The Blaustahl is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Blaustahl PCB?

The Blaustahl measures 30 × 16 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Blaustahl?

38 components, from 19 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Blaustahl design files?

From the machdyne/blaustahl repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Blaustahl design in my own project?

It is published under Custom license, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the Blaustahl without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
