About the IRHub PCB

IRHub is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by madhukartemba, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 64 × 61.2 mm, with 14 components from 10 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the WEMOS_D1_mini, from the ESP8266 family.

It belongs with the iot & wireless and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

An IoT device which can transmit and receive IR signals. Used to control appliances through alexa.

A self-contained, open-source smart IR universal remote built around the ESP8266. IR Hub learns the codes from your existing TV/AC/audio remotes, stores them locally, and lets you fire them from a physical button, an on-device menu, Home Assistant (MQTT), or Alexa — all over your home Wi-Fi.

It ships as a complete hardware + firmware project: custom KiCad PCB, 3D-printed enclosure, and PlatformIO firmware with OTA updates.

IRHub bill of materials (BOM)

IRHub: common questions

What microcontroller does the IRHub use?

The IRHub is built around the WEMOS_D1_mini, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the IRHub PCB?

The IRHub measures 64 × 61.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the IRHub?

14 components, from 10 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the IRHub design files?

From the madhukartemba/ir_hub repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the IRHub design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with madhukartemba. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the IRHub without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
