About the Doorbot PCB

Doorbot is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by makeitlabs, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 65 × 56.5 mm, with 75 components from 30 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega328P-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the TLP291, DRV103, MC78L05_SOT89 and DC_BOOST_MODULE. By type, the board carries 34 resistors, 13 capacitors, 10 ICs, 5 connectors, 5 diodes and 3 LEDs.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

Doorbot is an RFID access control platform, primarily intended for exterior doors in a makerspace environment. Based on Raspberry Pi 3b+, PoE hat, and a custom interface hat.

- pihat - Access control hat that sandwiches between a Raspberry Pi 3b+ and a Raspberry Pi PoE hat. It provides isolated Wiegand RFID reader translation as well as isolated PWM solenoid control. - i2clcd - Presently incomplete project for an I2C add-on display for the Doorbot Pi hat.

Doorbot: common questions

What microcontroller does the Doorbot use?

The Doorbot is built around the ATmega328P-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Doorbot PCB?

The Doorbot measures 65 × 56.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Doorbot?

75 components, from 30 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Doorbot design files?

From the makeitlabs/doorbot repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Doorbot design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with makeitlabs. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Doorbot without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
