About the Dc25badge PCB

Dc25badge is an open source Microchip SAM PCB design by Matir, published on GitHub under the Apache-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 126.8 × 48.3 mm, with 96 components from 24 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATSAMD21E18A-AU, from the Microchip SAM family. Other key parts include the MIC5305, TPS61232, 74AHCT125 and APA102. By type, the board carries 52 ICs, 28 capacitors, 5 resistors, 3 connectors, 3 switches and 1 transistor.

It belongs with the power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

This is an unofficial badge I made for DEF CON 25. It's a blinding party-style badge with 48 individually addressable RGB LEDs. Off an adequate battery (a medium LiPo) you can run all lights at max brightness, but that is bright.

This is intended as a one-time release for others to learn from and/or remix the firmware. I don't plan to take pull requests since it will be over and I'll be on to another project by the release. :)

Dc25badge: common questions

What microcontroller does the Dc25badge use?

The Dc25badge is built around the ATSAMD21E18A-AU, from the Microchip SAM family.

How big is the Dc25badge PCB?

The Dc25badge measures 126.8 × 48.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Dc25badge?

96 components, from 24 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Dc25badge design files?

From the Matir/DC25Badge repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Dc25badge design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its Apache-2.0 license, which Matir chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Dc25badge without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Microchip SAM firmware against it before you order a PCB.
