About the First fpga PCB

First fpga is an open source FPGA PCB design by mattvenn, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 100 × 68 mm, with 60 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the iCE40-HX4K-TQ144, from the FPGA family. Other key parts include the IS25LP016D-JBLE, TLV73312PDBV and TLV73333PDBV. By type, the board carries 22 capacitors, 13 resistors, 9 connectors, 5 diodes, 4 ICs and 3 inductors.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

A clock input. Has to be provided by an oscillator, it doesn't have a crystal driver. 1.2v core supply for the internal logic. 2.5v non volatile memory supply. Can be provided via a voltage drop over a diode from 3.3v. IO supply for the IO pins, different banks of IO can have different supplies. This design uses 3.3v for…

First fpga: common questions

What microcontroller does the First fpga use?

The First fpga is built around the iCE40-HX4K-TQ144, from the FPGA family.

How big is the First fpga PCB?

The First fpga measures 100 × 68 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the First fpga?

60 components, from 18 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the First fpga design files?

From the mattvenn/first-fpga-pcb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the First fpga design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with mattvenn. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the First fpga without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug FPGA firmware against it before you order a PCB.
