About the Zero r2 PCB

Zero r2 is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by mean00, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 41.8 × 30.2 mm, with 18 components from 15 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040-Zero, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the 3V->VTREF, VTREF->3V, VTREF<->3V and RT9013-33GB. By type, the board carries 5 ICs, 5 capacitors, 4 connectors, 3 resistors and 1 transistor.

It belongs with the usb & debug tools designs in this gallery, and the repository also holds 2 earlier revisions of it.

Or use any GDB frontend (VS Code, CLion, etc.) — just point it to the serial port.

This project uses CMake with presets for each target platform.

There is a devpod/docker build environment included.

- CMake ≥ 3.21 - ARM GCC toolchain (arm-none-eabi-gcc) or LLVM/Clang - RISC-V toolchain (for CH32V targets) - Rust toolchain (for the GDB interface)

Zero r2: common questions

What microcontroller does the Zero r2 use?

The Zero r2 is built around the RP2040-Zero, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Zero r2 PCB?

The Zero r2 measures 41.8 × 30.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Zero r2?

18 components, from 15 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Zero r2 design files?

From the mean00/swindle repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Zero r2 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with mean00. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Zero r2 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
