Its main chip is the ATMEGA328P-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the LD1117S50TR_SOT223, LM35DZ, MCP2515-I/SO, MCP2551-I/SN and FT232R. By type, the board carries 25 capacitors, 21 resistors, 17 diodes, 9 connectors, 7 ICs and 2 crystals.

It belongs with the usb & debug tools and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

A 24 channel LED driver with CAN bus interface and Arduino-style microcontroller.

The blinCAN is based on a multi-channel power LED driver module developed for the Desert Eyes project. It is matched to a small-scale construction prototype dome, which served to test construction and lighting patterns for the full-scale dome.

This module is built around a TLC5947 PWM LED driver IC, which is connected to an ATmega328 microcontroller. For communication, a MCP2551 CAN transceiver and a MCP2515 CAN controller with SPI interface to the microcontroller are utilized. A FT232R USB to UART interface has been added to allow programming via USB, once a bootloader is flashed onto the…

BlinCAN: common questions

What microcontroller does the BlinCAN use?

The BlinCAN is built around the ATMEGA328P-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the BlinCAN PCB?

The BlinCAN measures 127.1 × 67.1 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the BlinCAN?

84 components, from 41 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the BlinCAN design files?

From the metalhead777/blinCAN repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the BlinCAN design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-SA-4.0 license, which metalhead777 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the BlinCAN without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
