About the Smart pet tag PCB

Smart pet tag is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by microvalu, published on GitHub. It is a board, with 61 components from 34 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the nRF52840, from the Nordic nRF family. Other key parts include the MPU-6050, BU33TD3WG-TR and 100uF. By type, the board carries 26 capacitors, 13 resistors, 4 ICs, 3 switches, 3 diodes and 3 inductors.

This directory holds one .kicadsch per schematic section (antenna.kicadsch, batterysense.kicadsch, mcu.kicadsch, …). These files are tracked in git and are the source of truth — open them directly in KiCad Eeschema, edit, save in place, and commit. The SKiDL auto-router only fires for a section if its .kicadsch is missing (initial seeding); it never overwrites an existing tracked file unless you pass --force.

Smart pet tag: common questions

What microcontroller does the Smart pet tag use?

The Smart pet tag is built around the nRF52840, from the Nordic nRF family.

How many components are on the Smart pet tag?

61 components, from 34 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Smart pet tag design files?

From the microvalu/smart-pet-tag repository on GitHub, which has the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Smart pet tag design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with microvalu. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Smart pet tag without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
