About the Splitkey PCB

Splitkey is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by Mithilessh2010, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 277.1 × 112.2 mm, with 122 components from 3 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-nRF52840-SMD, from the Nordic nRF family. By type, the board carries 60 switches, 60 diodes and 2 ICs.

It belongs with the keyboards, iot & wireless and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

Split Keyboard is a 60-key split mechanical keyboard with wireless support. It runs on a XIAO nRF52840 and is powered by a battery, allowing it to connect to a computer using Bluetooth.

I made this project to learn more about CAD, PCB design, and firmware. I also wanted to build something useful that I can use every day since I currently just use a laptop keyboard.

Splitkey: common questions

What microcontroller does the Splitkey use?

The Splitkey is built around the XIAO-nRF52840-SMD, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Splitkey PCB?

The Splitkey measures 277.1 × 112.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Splitkey?

122 components, from 3 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Splitkey design files?

From the Mithilessh2010/Split-Keyboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Splitkey design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Mithilessh2010. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Splitkey without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
