About the Chocolate croissant PCB

Chocolate croissant is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by namnlos-io, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 85 × 56 mm, with 21 components from 16 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the W25Q32JVSS and AP2112K-3.3. By type, the board carries 7 capacitors, 6 resistors, 3 ICs, 2 diodes, 1 crystal and 1 connector.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

It's a Raspberry Pi Pico on a Raspberry Pi B+

This is a breakout board for when you want to fit a Raspberry Pi [34] B hat onto a Raspberry Pi Pico or fit a Raspberry Pi Pico in something that expects a full Raspberry Pi [34] B+.

The Raspberry Pi Pico W fits too of course.

The pinout might not be what you expect since the idea is to map function to function rather than GPIO pin to pin.

By this I mean that the Pico I2C0 pins are mapped to the I2C pins of the Raspberry Pi B+, SPI0 on the Pico is mapped to the SPI of the Raspberry Pi B+ and so on.

Chocolate croissant: common questions

What microcontroller does the Chocolate croissant use?

The Chocolate croissant is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Chocolate croissant PCB?

The Chocolate croissant measures 85 × 56 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Chocolate croissant?

21 components, from 16 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Chocolate croissant design files?

From the namnlos-io/chocolate_croissant repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Chocolate croissant design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which namnlos-io chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Chocolate croissant without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
