The Riotee board is a development board for battery-free wireless devices. The on-board wireless microcontroller runs off energy harvested from, for example, a solar panel and uses only tiny capacitors as energy storage. For uploading new software, the board can be connected to a PC via USB. During sotware upload and debugging, the microcontroller is powered with a fixed supply voltage from USB. After programming, the board automatically switches over to untethered, battery-free operation.

Riotee Board: common questions

What microcontroller does the Riotee Board use?

The Riotee Board is built around the SC0914(13), from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Riotee Board?

The Riotee Board measures 55.9 × 22.9 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.64 mm thick.

How many components are on the Riotee Board?

80 components, from 27 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Riotee Board design files?

From the NessieCircuits/Riotee_Board repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Riotee Board design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-W-2.0 license, which NessieCircuits chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Riotee Board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
