About the PZ1 Pico PCB

PZ1 Pico is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by NollKollTroll, published on GitHub under the Custom license license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 99.1 × 73.7 mm, with 21 components from 12 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the SRAM 512KiB, 65C02, 74LVC373, 74LVC244 and 74LVC245. By type, the board carries 8 ICs, 8 capacitors and 5 connectors.

A version of the PZ1-system based on 65C02, Pico and SRAM

A version of the PZ1-system based on 65C02, Raspberry Pi Pico and 512KiB SRAM.

This is the second public release of SW and HW for the PZ1-project, now with some more bells and whistles. The system uses my simple preemptive multitasking scheduler to manage the 512KiB RAM, using 16KiB for itself and system data. The task switching does not waste many cycles. Every task gets its own stack and a full zero page, minus the 18 bytes used for OS-calls. EhBASIC is running in a separate task with 64KiB RAM. There are added basic-commands to deal with tasks and the filesystem. HW realised in the Pico…

PZ1 Pico: common questions

What microcontroller does the PZ1 Pico use?

The PZ1 Pico is built around the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the PZ1 Pico PCB?

The PZ1 Pico measures 99.1 × 73.7 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 4.69 mm thick.

How many components are on the PZ1 Pico?

21 components, from 12 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the PZ1 Pico design files?

From the NollKollTroll/PZ1_Pico repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the PZ1 Pico design in my own project?

It is published under Custom license, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the PZ1 Pico without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
