About the Keyword PCB

Keyword is an open source STM32 PCB design by notaroomba, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 19.1 × 19.1 mm, with 69 components from 38 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32WB55RGVX, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the TPD2EUSB30, NX2012SA-32.768KHZ-STD-MUB-2, YZ13515055F-02025-02, BQ25895RTW and C882955. By type, the board carries 26 capacitors, 19 ICs, 13 resistors, 6 connectors, 2 inductors and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the keyboards, power & battery and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

A truly modular keyboard

- Truly modular - every key is its own self-contained board. Pop them off, rearrange the layout, and snap them back wherever you want. - Magnetic keycaps - caps hold on with embedded 2×0.5mm magnets and latch onto the switch's side rails. No tools, no soldering. - Pogo-pin interconnect - keys link to the main board (and each other) through spring-loaded pogo pins and pads, so there's nothing to plug in. - Smart per-key MCU - each module runs a cheap CH32V003 RISC-V microcontroller and reports over a shared I²C bus. - Bluetooth + USB main board - the central board is built around an…

Keyword: common questions

What microcontroller does the Keyword use?

The Keyword is built around the STM32WB55RGVX, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Keyword PCB?

The Keyword measures 19.1 × 19.1 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.5842 mm thick.

How many components are on the Keyword?

69 components, from 38 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Keyword design files?

From the notaroomba/keybytes repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Keyword design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with notaroomba. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Keyword without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
