About the MacroBoard PCB

MacroBoard is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by NoxAevi, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 403.8 × 137.1 mm, with 227 components from 210 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the NCP1117-3.3_SOT223, W25Q128JVS and USB6B1. By type, the board carries 98 diodes, 97 switches, 17 capacitors, 8 resistors, 4 ICs and 2 connectors.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

- The MacroBoard is an extension of a much smaller "macropad" featuring a full TKL layout with a rotary encoder for volume and a whopping total of 22 macro keys (10 macrokeys physically and 12 more due to the fn keys being on another layer), and it is all coded with KMK firmware.

No need to worry! The MacroBoard has a Pi Pico as its brain, which is pretty efficient on energy. - Dislike the microUSB connector on the Pi Pico? Again, don't worry! Through the use of a USB Type-C breakout board, most of the cables that you already use should work…

MacroBoard: common questions

What microcontroller does the MacroBoard use?

The MacroBoard is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the MacroBoard PCB?

The MacroBoard measures 403.8 × 137.1 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the MacroBoard?

227 components, from 210 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MacroBoard design files?

From the NoxAevi/MacroBoard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MacroBoard design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which NoxAevi chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the MacroBoard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
