About the Opentaxus PCB

Opentaxus is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by OpenTaxus, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-SA-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 66.7 × 85.7 mm, with 49 components from 27 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the W25Q128JVS, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the HE6206-33NR, RP2040 and XT1861B332MR-G. By type, the board carries 18 capacitors, 13 resistors, 4 ICs, 3 connectors, 3 diodes and 2 transistors.

It belongs with the wearables and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

Opentaxus is a permissively licensed set of hardware, software, and tooling to help as a starting point for customized conference badges.

/hardware/ contains the kicad board design files and full details about design and manufacturing. The hardware on the badge includes:

- Raspberry Pi 2040, derived from the seeed xiao 2040 - 16MB spi flash for code and files - 128x64 OLED display with SH1106 or SSD1309 controller over I2C - IR LED and Phototransistor used directly on UART. - 5-way d-pad for input - 2 neopixel LEDs - AA battery plus boost voltage converter - USB-C connector plus vreg for usb power - power switch to switch between USB and Battery power - test points for reset, boot, and swd

Opentaxus: common questions

What microcontroller does the Opentaxus use?

The Opentaxus is built around the W25Q128JVS, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Opentaxus PCB?

The Opentaxus measures 66.7 × 85.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Opentaxus?

49 components, from 27 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Opentaxus design files?

From the OpenTaxus/opentaxus repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Opentaxus design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-SA-4.0 license, which OpenTaxus chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Opentaxus without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
