About the Payload PCB

Payload is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by OSUSat, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 80 × 80 mm, with 55 components from 29 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the CM4, from the Raspberry Pi family. Other key parts include the MCP2517FD-XJHA, SN65HVD230, 74LVC1G07 and DRV8846. By type, the board carries 16 capacitors, 15 resistors, 7 ICs, 7 connectors, 6 diodes and 2 crystals.

It belongs with the rf & radio, science & space and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

Open Source Earth Imaging Satellite Hardware + Firmware

Welcome to the central repository for the OSUSat Climate Science CubeSat project. This repository contains the hardware designs, firmware, and documentation for the sub-systems comprising the satellite.

The OSUSat Climate Science CubeSat is a low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite designed to capture high-resolution imagery and scientific data for climate science research.

Payload: common questions

What microcontroller does the Payload use?

The Payload is built around the CM4, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the Payload PCB?

The Payload measures 80 × 80 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Payload?

55 components, from 29 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Payload design files?

From the OSUSat/cubesat repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Payload design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which OSUSat chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Payload without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
