ESP8266-based products and projects

esp-output is designed and manufactured by panStamp based on the popular ESP8266 WiFi IC to create a simple but powerful device with six relay outputs and a WiFi interface. This device is controllable via MQTT and HTTP by means of a very simple packet structure. This board is programmable from the Arduino IDE.

This sketch requires the ESP8266 board to be installed from Tools->Board->Boards Manager. After this, select "Generic ESP8266 Module" from Tools->Board. The on-board ESP8266 IC can be programed from the Arduino IDE through a simple USB-UART(3.3V) converter following this pinout:

Esp8266: common questions

What microcontroller does the Esp8266 use?

The Esp8266 is built around the ESP-12E, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the Esp8266 PCB?

The Esp8266 measures 158.6 × 51.8 mm and is 1.6002 mm thick.

How many components are on the Esp8266?

62 components, from 22 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Esp8266 design files?

From the panStamp/esp8266 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Esp8266 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which panStamp chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Esp8266 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
