About the Custom-RP2040-Dev-Board

Custom-RP2040-Dev-Board is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by PartialScience, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 53.3 × 53.3 mm, with 30 components from 14 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the NCP1117-3.3_SOT223 and W25Q128JVSIM. By type, the board carries 17 capacitors, 5 resistors, 4 connectors, 3 ICs and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

First-PCB project: minimal RP2040 microcontroller dev board (W25Q128JV flash, 12 MHz crystal, NCP1117-3.3 LDO, micro-B USB). KiCad sources, BOM, and Inventor enclosure model.

A minimal RP2040 microcontroller board with on-board flash, crystal, regulator, and USB. This was the first PCB I designed end-to-end and had manufactured -- the goal was to learn the full toolchain (schematic capture, layout, fabrication, paste-and-reflow assembly) on a small but non-trivial board, so the design is intentionally close to the Raspberry Pi reference application.

Custom-RP2040-Dev-Board: common questions

What microcontroller does the Custom-RP2040-Dev-Board use?

The Custom-RP2040-Dev-Board is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Custom-RP2040-Dev-Board?

The Custom-RP2040-Dev-Board measures 53.3 × 53.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1 mm thick.

How many components are on the Custom-RP2040-Dev-Board?

30 components, from 14 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Custom-RP2040-Dev-Board design files?

From the PartialScience/Custom-RP2040-Dev-Board repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Custom-RP2040-Dev-Board design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which PartialScience chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Custom-RP2040-Dev-Board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
