About the Spasics PCB

Spasics is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by psychogenic, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 45 × 30 mm, with 66 components from 24 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the SC0914(13), from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the 74CBTLV3257PW,118, AP2112K-1.8TRG1, AP2112K-3.3TRG1, Openframe_QFN_TT06_REV2 and W25Q32JVSSIQ. By type, the board carries 35 capacitors, 17 resistors, 6 ICs, 5 connectors, 2 inductors and 1 crystal.

A single PCB created to host both the ASIC and the platform for the Experiment Run and Data Collection Framework (an RP2040) for inclusion within the pocketQube class satellite.

In addition to the meeting requirements related to being included in the launch (e.g. a 3mm height maximum, no silk screen, etc), a primary goals were to

Spasics: common questions

What microcontroller does the Spasics use?

The Spasics is built around the SC0914(13), from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Spasics PCB?

The Spasics measures 45 × 30 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 0.926 mm thick.

How many components are on the Spasics?

66 components, from 24 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Spasics design files?

From the psychogenic/spasics repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Spasics design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which psychogenic chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Spasics without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
