About the I2S-Hat
I2S-Hat is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by raptorlightning, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 65 × 56 mm, with 94 components from 31 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the Arduino_Nano_v3.x, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 74LVC1G125DBV, NC7SZ157P6X, 74LVC1GU04DBV, 74LV1T04DBV and WM8804. By type, the board carries 33 resistors, 25 capacitors, 11 ICs, 7 inductors, 5 transistors and 5 connectors.
It belongs with the audio and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.
From the project
An SPDIF Hat for the Raspberry Pi 2-X for SPDIF Communication
To make this possible, a combination of software and hardware is required. The schematics and PCB to create the SPDIF hat are provided in KiCAD format in the "I2SHat" folder. Please modify the schematic and PCB as required for component availibility.
The other aspects of the circuit have been tested and proven. Resistor tolerances are of no concern, neither are capacitor tolerances. Regardless, don't use a 10uF Y5U 5V rated MLCC capacitor for the regulator outputs. That will violate the datasheet.

I2S-Hat: common questions
What microcontroller does the I2S-Hat use?
The I2S-Hat is built around the Arduino_Nano_v3.x, from the AVR/Arduino family.
How big is the I2S-Hat?
The I2S-Hat measures 65 × 56 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the I2S-Hat?
94 components, from 31 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the I2S-Hat design files?
From the raptorlightning/I2S-Hat repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the I2S-Hat design in my own project?
Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which raptorlightning chose for the repository.
Can I test firmware for the I2S-Hat without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
