RP2040-based debug probe board

The RP2040-DebugProbe project aims to re-imagine Raspberry Pi Debug Probe.

The RP2040-DebugProbe board is a 4-layer design intended to accommodate the popular Raspberry Pi RP2040 MCU with all required component to function identically to Raspberry Pi Debug Probe.

This board features target JTAG connector and PC host USB Type-C connector. It also has a SWD connector and UART connector for the main MCU debugging. The board is pin-compatible with Raspberry Pi Debug Probe and can be used with the same picoprobe SW.

RP2040-DebugProbe: common questions

What microcontroller does the RP2040-DebugProbe use?

The RP2040-DebugProbe is built around the C2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the RP2040-DebugProbe PCB?

The RP2040-DebugProbe measures 50.8 × 25.4 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6062 mm thick.

How many components are on the RP2040-DebugProbe?

66 components, from 28 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the RP2040-DebugProbe design files?

From the red-scorp/RP2040-DebugProbe repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the RP2040-DebugProbe design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with red-scorp. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the RP2040-DebugProbe without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
