Firmware, software, and hardware for Rice Robotics' University Rover Challenge team.
The University Rover Challenge (URC) is an international competition, run by the Mars Society, where student teams design and build a Mars rover prototype. The rover competes in field missions such as science sample analysis, equipment servicing, extreme retrieval and delivery, and autonomous navigation. Check the current year's rules for the exact missions.

Rover-ELEC: common questions
What microcontroller does the Rover-ELEC use?
The Rover-ELEC is built around the ESP32-DEVKIT-V1, from the ESP32 family.
How big is the Rover-ELEC PCB?
The Rover-ELEC measures 60.9 × 86.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Rover-ELEC?
24 components, from 7 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Rover-ELEC design files?
From the rice-robotics-club/Rover-ELEC repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Rover-ELEC design in my own project?
Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which rice-robotics-club chose for the repository.
Can I test firmware for the Rover-ELEC without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
